Build a starter kit of fifth grade school supplies and add to it as needed before the school year begins.
The fifth grade teachers at Cimarron Avenue Elementary will typically update their school supplies list on a yearly basis, we
try to update this list accordingly however we advise you to check with your child's fifth grade teacher and double check with the school, Cimarron Avenue Elementary, to see if there have been any changes to this year's fifth grade supply list.
A couple of things to keep in mind when ordering your fifth grade supplies, comsumable school supplies tend to run out long before the school year ends so take advantage of the back to school
offers and stock up on the basic supplies, your child's fifth grade teacher at Cimarron Avenue Elementary will thank you for that, and more importantly, your child's presence is the most important thing, the supplies are fifth to that and your teacher will
be more than understanding if you are unable to purchase all of the supplies on the list. Have a wonderful, safe and happy school year!
One of the most important pieces of information for you every school year is the Los Angeles Unified District Academic Calendar. There, you will find your child's schedule for the entire school year including holidays, staff development days, half days, testing days, fifth and last day of school, etc. See the calendar for Los Angeles Unified below.
While the new school year will begin in August, it will not start with students at school facilities. The health and safety of all in the school community is not something we can compromise. The news about the spread of the virus continues to be of great concern. Last week was the worst yet in the Los Angeles area. The rate of those who tested positive for the virus is approaching 10%, well above the level of 5% the World Health Organization guidelines say is appropriate for communities to reopen. The comparison with New York should also be a cautionary note for all of us in Los Angeles.
Whether the instruction will be at schools or online, a team of educators is continuing to work around the clock to put in place plans for the new school year. Our commitment to students and their families is to provide the best possible education in the classroom - whether online or at school. Online, this will include a regular schedule with standards-based instruction, including daily, live engagement between teachers and students. Regular assessments of student progress will be used by teachers to guide their work with students and keep families informed.
Where possible, schools will add instruction and one-on-one tutoring after school and on Saturday mornings to help students make up for lost time and accelerate their progress.
More detailed information about both online and at-school programs will be shared in the coming weeks with final plans by the first week in August. While the school year will begin without students at school facilities, our goal is to welcome students back to school as soon as it is safe and appropriate for us to do so.
It is July 13th, and August 18th is about 5 weeks away. In ordinary circumstances, we would have already shared all of the details about the upcoming school year, from the time of the school bus pickup to the schedule of volleyball and football practices. These are not ordinary circumstances. As we have seen over just the past 5 weeks, things can change quite quickly.
We will incorporate the latest information in the plans we share in August. I wish we had a crystal ball, but we do not. We will continue to do the best we can with the information we have at the time.
We are working to balance the learning needs of students, the impact the virus is having on working families and the health and safety of all in the school community. You have my commitment to do the best we can.
Thank you for your continued patience and support.
