Kenwood is a neighborhood school with a long history in the area. The original Kenwood School was a one room building that stood next to the present day Kenwood Baptist church. The school was in operation from 1908 until 1945 when students were transferred to Ringgold Elementary. Our present building was opened in the fall of 1993 and students rezoned from Byrns Darden, Ringgold, and Minglewood Elementary schools and became the new students of Kenwood Elementary School. Today, Kenwood has progressed a long way from its beginning as a one room schoolhouse. There are two reading classrooms, a Reading Lab, Computer Lab, Music classroom, Art classroom, Gymnasium, Cafeteria, Speech and Language classroom, resource Labs, Guidance classroom, and Media Center. There are two Administrative offices and Nurses station housed within the main office. The staff at Kenwood Elementary are dedicated and committed to providing each child with a safe, secure, and positive learning environment in which everyone can be successful academically. Our goal is to focus on meeting individual needs and target the areas of Reading and Math.

In addition, you can always build a starter kit of first grade school supplies and add to it as needed before the school year begins.

The first grade teachers at Kenwood Elementary will typically update their school supplies list on a yearly basis, we try to update this list accordingly however we advise you to check with your child's first grade teacher and double check with the school, Kenwood Elementary, to see if there have been any changes to this year's first grade supply list.

A couple of things to keep in mind when ordering your first grade supplies, consumable school supplies tend to run out long before the school year ends so take advantage of the back to school offers and stock up on the basic supplies, your child's first grade teacher at Kenwood Elementary will thank you for that, and more importantly, your child's presence is the most important thing, the supplies are second to that and your teacher will be more than understanding if you are unable to purchase all of the supplies on the list. Have a wonderful, safe and happy school year!

Be sure to order plenty of hand sanitizer and due to recent events, it is more important than ever to stay in touch with Montgomery County Schools to find news and any schedule changes that may take place.

One of the most important pieces of information for you every school year is the Montgomery County Schools District Academic Calendar. There, you will find your child's schedule for the entire school year including holidays, staff development days, half days, testing days, first and last day of school, etc. See the calendar for Montgomery County Schools below.

Montgomery County Schools Coronavirus Information

Due to the ever-changing circumstances and evolving research and guidance regarding COVID-19, the district will be prepared for a continuum of options for schooling: traditional (in-person) classes, remote instructional delivery, and hybrid approaches. These plans will ensure that the district is prepared to continue providing a high-quality education for all students no matter the circumstances.

The level of community spread and the district’s ability to adhere to laws, policies, and guidelines will guide the district’s decision-making relative to school reopening and any changes that could occur throughout the school year.

An essential consideration as CMCSS develops reopening plans is to provide parents/guardians and students with personal options. In addition to the three models of instructional delivery on the continuum, a virtual learning option will be available to all CMCSS families. Parents/guardians will have the option to enroll their K-12 child in a virtual school taught by CMCSS teachers provided at no cost to families.

More information on the Virtual Learning option will be available soon.

The Continuum of Options:

Traditional:
Traditional, in person classes for 100% of students with health, safety, and operational changes to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Hybrid:
Modifications to the traditional 5-day school week to reduce class sizes, transportation, and building capacities by 50% to allow for better social distancing.

Remote:
A plan for the entire district or individual schools to have all students learning remotely if needed.

Virtual:
CMCSS will be providing a K-12 virtual school option led by a CMCSS administrator and taught by CMCSS teachers at no cost to parents/guardians.
